A Pair of Grinches Stole Christmas But They Might be Spending the Holidays Behind Bars
SPRING HILL – It’s that time of year again… People are spending the next few weeks buying gifts for loved ones and preparing for the coming Christmas Holiday. But it’s also the time of year that thieves take advantage unsuspecting victims by breaking into homes and vehicle, conducting internet scams, and even stealing gifts from your front porch and mailboxes.
That’s exactly what a pair of Grinches were up to last week, when officials say 31-year-old Nicholas Christopher Cimino and his girlfriend, 27-year-old Lauren Renea Smith went on a shopping spree into people’s mailboxes.
Larry Haswell contacted RNRF last week, after he says mail was stolen out of his mailbox on Fairhaven Ave, as well as several of his neighbors. Haswell asked that we look into the issue, but Detectives with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office already had the thieves in their sites.
Officials say all the merchandise has been recovered but the investigation will continue.
Cimino is charged with Petit Theft (Felony due to prior convictions), Dealing in Stolen Property, Defrauding a Pawn Broker and Burglary.
Smith is charged with Fleeing/Attempt to Elude Police Officer, Resisting an Officer without Violence, Knowingly Driving with a Suspended License, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
