Altercation Leads to One Arrest After Man Calls Trump Supporters Racist
SPRING HILL – A man walks into to a café and says to another patron, “Hey I like your Trump hat” The man tips his hat and walks away. Another patron turns to the Trump supporter and says “You’re a racist.” Sounds like a there should be punchline at this end of this story, and don’t worry, there will be…
Robert Christenson and his girlfriend Stephanie Holbrook were standing in line at a Dunkin Donuts Tuesday, when Robert complimented a man’s “Make America Great Again” hat in passing. That’s when according to Robert, a man standing behind him said “You might as well say hey I’m a racist!” The insult led to a loud verbal altercation between the three and according to the “instigator,” Ioannis Papadopoulos, Robert and Stephanie began calling him a “Libtard” and “Socialist.” The yelling and screaming became such a disturbance that all three were asked to leave the establishment.
The arguing intensified once the trio stepped outside, and at one point Robert says Ioannis tried to run them over with a car. Ioannis denies that ever occurred and says Robert kicked his car as he was driving away. Ioannis says he drove across the street to the Shell Rapid Lube, located on the corner of Spring Hill Drive and Mariner Blvd to call 911. Ironically, that’s Robert’s place of employment. When Ioannis asked the store manager to call police, he was told to get out “get the f**k out of here!”
By this time, Robert made his way across the street to confront Ioannis about the near collision at Dunkin Donuts. That’s when according to Robert, Ioannis tried to run him over again. Like before, Ioannis denied that claim and says Robert, once again, kicked his car, leaving a large dent in the side.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene, and after an investigation Robert was placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Mischief. He was released at the scene with a notice to appear in court.
Robert tells RNRF “It’s getting bad when I get arrested after a guy tried to run me and my wife over with his car.” Robert goes on to explain “The whole time he was yelling ‘I’m gonna do it I’m gonna run your fat b***h over’ but that’s perfectly legal so long as you don’t do it, and just come within inches of doing it.”
Ioannis tells RNRF “Trump’s supporters are aggressive and full of fear and hate. Might be an unpopular opinion around here, but it’s true. They support his idea to “ban Muslims” from entering our country, but deny there’s something fundamentally wrong with lumping all members of the same religion or ethnicity together (a la Nazi Germany) to penalize, punish, and discriminate against.”
A review of the official report showed no mention of a dispute starting over remarks made about Donald Trump. We asked the Sheriff’s Office to inquire with deputies about the allegations but we have not received a response.
Donald Trump’s campaign rallies have had their share of violent outbreaks, but a recently leaked video suggests that the Hillary camp may have paid operatives to incite violence at Trump rallies.
UPDATE: 10/21/2016, 9:08 A.M. – One of the responding deputies provided the following statement regarding the incident: Deputy Gary Russel says “I believe both parties indicated that the verbal argument was initially started over comments about Donald Trump inside the store. Neither party indicated any physical altercation took place.”
