Armed Man Barricades Himself Inside Spring Hill Home, SWAT Brings Standoff to an End

SPRING HILL – One person is in protective custody after a two-hour standoff on Mayberry Road ended peacefully.

Dozens of onlookers watched as deputies surrounded the residence located at the 12000 block of Mayberry Road, where sources say a man barricaded himself inside after making suicidal statements.

There are unconfirmed reports that the man was armed with several handguns and that he repeatedly brought them to the front door of the residence, while negotiators tried to convince him to surrender.

SWAT members positioned themselves around the home and waited for the man to exit the residence. Around 6:30 p.m. the man walked out of the front door and was taken into custody without further incident.

Officials say the man is not expected to face criminal charges.

    • It’s blurred because he was suicidal. He posts unblurred faces when someone commits a crime.

    • No name, no face. Maybe mental health issues? Suicide by cop? Don’t understand no identity or will not be charged. I understand compassion but wasn’t someone in danger here?

      Monday, 14 August 2017, 6:30 am
    • Because he was suicidal, not a criminal

      Monday, 14 August 2017, 8:37 am
    • He was suicidal, he is not a suspect. He is most likely a victim of severe depression or PTSD. This is all covered under HIPAA; can’t show his face or name him..

      Monday, 14 August 2017, 11:47 am
    • Could be covered because of possible mental health issues not criminal issues. If you had a mental health issue they would probably protect your privacy by blocking your face too. Nowhere did it say a crime was committed. Mental health issues are not a crime and he deserves his privacy. He will probably be baker acted for observation. It’s a terrible tragedy but my prayers go out that he finds the assistance he needs. In hernando county it will be difficult.
