  • So many nasty comments. It’s sad that a young man died and another is critical , and their families are suffering BUT I feel that the gentleman also involved needs a thought and prayers. This will forever impact the rest of his life. The age hate comments are unnecessary people. Let’s all just pray for all three people involved and their families . Be kind and DRIVE RESPONSIBLY.

  • I believe they ought to raise the age when a driver’s license is allowed to be issued . Age 21

    Thursday, 19 April 2018, 6:41 pm
    • And taken away age 60

      Friday, 20 April 2018, 11:24 am
  • The saddest part of this article is the ignorance of Floridians! Y’all want to say a poor child is dead with no information. Y’all are sick and uneducated people.
My prayer are with the Herman family and the other boy!
The old black man who walked away fine, makes me sick!
Ignorance is strong in Florida heck most of you still think Trump is a good choice!!
God Bless the boys and their families.

    Thursday, 19 April 2018, 6:00 pm
    • The skin color of the pickup truck’s driver has zero bearing on anything. The Mustang’s driver made a terrible error that cost a life. It might have cost three lives.

It’s puzzling how your mind connects this to our legally elected President.

It’s time for you to get over your Trump Derangement Syndrome.

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 9:13 pm
      • Legally elected LOL .

        Friday, 20 April 2018, 7:46 am
        • Yes, legally elected — in spite of HRC and the DNC trying to rig the election, she lost any way. My point was your racist comment about the pickup driver were totally wrong — and had nothing to do with anything.. Just like Trump had nothing to do with what happened: a young, inexperienced driver was either careless or distracted and made a turn that resulted in his friend’s death. Your shotgun attack on everything but the inarguable facts is silly and unproductive.

          Friday, 20 April 2018, 12:14 pm
    • How can you say its ignorance and sick with the old man walking away do you wish death apon the old man too?!?! Your the sick one for saying a complete accident leading to a tragety is ignorant!!!

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 9:16 pm
      • Nope I said “ignorant Floridians” big difference. My point exactly. Everyone wants to attack the young men-this is where you are backwards.

        Friday, 20 April 2018, 7:50 am
    • And then you want to bring politics into it just send your prayers for the young mans family and stop picking arguments over someones passing!!

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 9:19 pm
    • Re:Friend, I can not believe what you POSTED . This has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS, NOR THE COLOR OF ONES SKIN. SO YOU ARE SICK” THAT THE OLD BACK MAN IS ALIVE” ? The family doesn’t need this. STOP, I urge EVERYONE THAT TRULY BELIEVE S TO PRAY FOR YOU FRIEND AS WELL AS EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THIS TRAGEDY.. THANK YOU.

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 9:23 pm
    • #1 he wasn’t black and if he was , race ,color was not a factor in this , #2 he was traveling in the right lane doing the legal speed when the car cut in front of him. This was an accident. A young man died , another young man us in critical & a 60 year old man (of any race creed or color) has to live with this for the rest of his life. Your just iggnorant and a troll. And the fact that you want to start a race war shows as well your stupidity. This is a tragedy , dont use this Avenue as a base for your spooning up an issue.

      Friday, 20 April 2018, 7:23 am
  • I can’t believe what I am reading on here! All the finger pointing has got to stop. One young man has lost his life and another fighting to stay alive! Where are your hearts at? I pray for all involved and I pray even harder for that young man, Garrett, to pu;ll through. It was an accident people!! They happen, I wish they didn’t, but they do.

  • Sadly, one of our closest friends lost his daughter on this same day 10 years ago as a passenger in a Mustang. I see it him live it every day still. I pray for his peace of mind as I will pray for Seth’s family. Christina was only 17, my friend’s daughter.
Do not ever play this blame game, it was time for God to bring them home.

    Thursday, 19 April 2018, 1:42 pm
  • How about stopping all the negative! And Pray for all involved! These boys and the other driver has family’s that don’t need negatively impact in their lives For the Angle that’s passed FLY HIGH RIP

    Thursday, 19 April 2018, 10:38 am
  • My heart aches for all parties involved. Such a horrific ACCIDENT! I personally don’t care about the ifs, why’s, what, or who. At the end of the day it’s all irrelevant when you can really put your mind passed everything and just think about the families who are suffering and that is ALL parties involved. Do people really think that 60 year old man got up and thought he would ever be in this situation or those boys nobody did. It’s about life young and old. We should as a community be sticking together and forming a power of pray for everyone involved. May god wrap his arms around the young man still fighting for his life, may he give the family of the young man who lost his life strength and comforting and may he comfort the man who will forever be traumatized by the very thought of this moment in life that changed so many life’s. May we all come together and be strong for our community and try to help in anyway we can instead of pointing fingers and speculating. May God give us wisdom and healing. My heart is hurting for all families. It happened and we as a community can’t undo that but we can move forward with a positive and uplifting spirit to help and support right now!

  • I understand the need for discussions about traffic lights at intersections like Ridge and Hexam and the thoughts about possible congestion that could be caused if lights were installed. I even understand the need to explain it is DOT that says when a light can be installed, not the county itself. However, some of you guys are just the most heartless bunch of always B & W internet trolls the county has to offer. Talking smack because the driver was a teen, saying they might have been “distracted drivers”, “Speeding” or “not taken drivers Ed” etc. Seth Leathers lost his life concern yourself with that. Garrett Herman is still struggling to hang on try saying a prayer for him and both their families, and if your so damn concerned about what is happening in this county why don’t you take a few minutes to think about the 1,200 students at WWHS who just lost a classmate and are waiting on news of Garrett. Maybe think of the other students at Central High and Springstead who went to Elementary School with them at Pine Grove or at WWK8 and then we’re routed to other schools because of country issues. Many of your kids and grandkids, friends and neighbors are reading these posts. Stop being presumptuous, and lift them up, send them your condolences.

  • I’m a very close family member of the kid fighting for his life in the hospital.
If u don’t know all the facts…keep your mouth shut

    Thursday, 19 April 2018, 3:32 am
  • To the family amd friends of victims…so sorry for your loss. Will be praying for you.

    Thursday, 19 April 2018, 1:08 am

    • I am Garret’s grandma he is still fighting please keep him in your thoughts

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 12:10 pm
      • I will keep you grandson, you, your family and the other boy’s family in my prayers. I am the mother of 4 boys, 17, 16, 15 and 10 and this is a parent’s worst nightmare. I pray he pulls through and makes a full recovery physically and emotionally. Stay strong and just know there are many people praying!

        Thursday, 19 April 2018, 5:20 pm
  • I just want to say that regardless of who is to blame, there is now a teenager who is no longer here, he was an innocent person in this who was not at the wheel. I am so sorry for the loss of this young man. Now is not the time to be pointing fingers. I see parents every day at the high school and Winding Waters going the wrong way or making their own lanes. So we can’t blame just the young drivers.
    Prayers to both families.

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 11:50 pm
    • Stacey R., your last 3 sentences were 100 per cent spot on. Parents going the wrong way and making their own lanes. And they “WONDER?” Where the kids get the habits from. Thankyou for your intelligent comment. Your friend is being prayed for continuously be assured.

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 5:58 pm
  • Prayers to the families. The schools should teach drivers education for the safety of our children.

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 10:10 pm
    • Really? The schools? What about parents expecting some accountability?

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 7:44 am
    • Why is it the school’s responsibility to teach your children and grandchildren driver’s ed?? Did YOU have driver’s ed when you went to school? PARENTS NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR TEACHING THEIR KIDS TO ACT RESPONSIBLY. My father taught me to drive and my mother. There was no driver’s ed then. The schools have quit teaching cursive writing, phonics ( which helps kids sound out and spell words), home economics ( which shows the kids how to be self sufficient thru cooking, budgeting, etc.) and other courses. THE BURDEN TO TEACH DRIVER’S ED SHOULD FALL ON THE PARENTS SHOULDERS EVEN IF THEY HAVE TO PAY TO SEND THE CHILD TO A DRIVING SCHOOL!! AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE YOUR CHILD WILL LISTEN AND PUT INTO PRACTICE THE LESSONS THEY ARE TAUGHT.

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 7:50 am
    • The “schools” tell students when they should wear deodorant, how to brush teeth, provide fluoride and breakfast, mandate clothing and cell phone rules, provide events and entertainment-even swimming lessons, and are concerned about attendance. When is there time to teach academics?

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 7:51 am
    • Ummmm, most schools do you dipshit of an old lady, where is your respect

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 8:43 am
      • Billy Goat, where’s your respect for your “elders”? Shame on you. By the way, where are your prayers/condolences/concern for the three families involved in this tragedy??

        Thursday, 19 April 2018, 6:12 pm
    • I took drivers ED up north when I was a kid. So did my oldest son. It wasn’t an expectation it was a privilege. You had to have a higher GPA to even sign up for the class. Down here any kid gets a license. Just have to drive with a parent or anyone over 21. Now, do tell me where all of the lottery money is going? Schools? I think not!

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 9:18 pm
  • I’m sure the families of the deceased and injured teens really need the comments flying on this site right now. THREE LIVES CHANGED DRASTICALLY IN SECONDS. TWO LIVES STILL MUST DEAL WITH THIS INCLUDING THEIR FAMILIES. DON’T MAKE IT WORSE ON THEM. May God be with all members of this tragic and trying time. My prayers go out for you.
For other posters PLEASE contact the authorities with your blame, suggestions, wants and needs comments. Change the future by your actions NOT BY DENIGRATING THE INVOLVED PARTIES. contact DOT, hernando county, etc. Give those involved in this horror your prayers, your compassion NOT YOUR FINGER POINTING.

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 10:10 pm
    • EXCELLENT POST ELS, COMPLETELY AGREE.!

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 10:45 am
  • Maybe now they will put a light there. Enough people have died there.

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 9:07 pm
  • I fill so bad for the family’s involved May god be be with them . It’s so sad to hear of some thing like this. I would say have parents talk to their kids about driving . Parents talk to your kids about this let them know that you can’t take chance on crossing roads or turn arounds. While driving no one wants this to happen it was a mistake that that can’t be fixed . I hope the schools talk to the kids about their driving and what can happen . I am not saying it’s the schools fault .just say the young drivers need to know what can happen if you don’t keep your eyes and ears open . I have seen people on cell phones cross lanes while talking on their phone . They should have a law if your talking on a phone while driving you get a ticket .

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 8:54 pm

      Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 8:07 pm
      • There is a church on the road they pulled out on. Where do you get YOUR information?

        Thursday, 19 April 2018, 7:22 pm
        • Go back and read the article. Don’t make things up in your mind. My husband saw the accident.

          Friday, 20 April 2018, 5:23 am
  • We need a light

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 6:51 pm
  • Traffic thins out drastically after 50 headed North. No stops lights needed . Just pay attention to what you’re doing .

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 6:46 pm
    • They need a light at Ridge and at Hexam. Traffic does thin out after 50 but we have 5 schools up here. So at portions of the day it’s a nightmare. Dont negate our need just because it’s not consistent because it is everyday and so many people have lost their lives at both places.

      Thursday, 19 April 2018, 9:33 am
  • Blame the county . You should see the turn lane they made for ridge rd. Almost an accident everyday. And alll that work they are doing no one smart enough to say hey a simple turn lane for country rd all problems solved….but no people have to die and at the same time somone has to live with fault and blame the county…anyone that drives that area knows damn well they have had to hit there brakes because your going 60 and somone slams their brakes to turn on country rd…simple turn lane…..simple. sorry for loss

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 6:09 pm
  • They dont need a light, just competent drivers… most are elderly going the wrong way… Ive seen that more than a few times in a year

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 5:21 pm
    • Yeah the 60 yr old man needs to have his license revoked and his ass needs to go to jail. Those boys were outstanding young men. The world will not be the same. People here need to stop being judgmental.

      Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 9:46 pm
      • you better read the article again before placing blame.

        Thursday, 19 April 2018, 4:20 am
      • This man does not need to go to jail. He was obeying the rules of the road. Sadly these boys chose to make a left hand turn in front of the gentleman. I’m sure if he could have stopped he would have. Let’s not place blame here let’s just try to teach people in this County to drive better because God knows people in this County drive like a bunch of damn fools.

        Thursday, 19 April 2018, 10:10 am
      • “Yeah the 60 yr old man needs to have his license revoked and his ass needs to go to jail.” Some how this statement is not judgemental?

        Thursday, 19 April 2018, 10:22 am
      • The Mustang turned IN FRONT OF the pickup. The pickup had the right of way.

        Thursday, 19 April 2018, 10:36 am
        • Yes, we all know this. Point being one boy died, one boy is still fighting for life. At fault? Who cares? Two boys and adult man have had their lives or lack there of changed forever.

          Thursday, 19 April 2018, 1:35 pm
  • Prayers for all involved..

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 5:20 pm
  • The county does not have the option to put up a light its DOT what you want a light at every intersection people just need to slow the F *** down

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 5:11 pm
  • People just need to be more responsible when it comes to driving. Driving doesn’t mean you put on lipstick. Play with the radio. Shave your legs. Text the person next to you or have sex while driving. To many drivers doing everything but driving.

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 5:00 pm
    • Amen… I drive 19 every morning and evening and I count how many people are on their phone. Usually they believe they are driving fine while they are going into the lane next to them.

      Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 8:09 pm
  • Dangerous intersection. Better to go up one block to Lakefront, where there is a turn lane.

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 4:33 pm
  • This is a terrible intersection! We live where we must go through this spot daily and it’s very scary! How many more lives need to be lost before the county will put a light here?

    Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 4:30 pm
    • We live in The Heather. Have been told The Heather has been trying for 30 years to get a light put in there – with no luck.

      Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 5:53 pm
    • I also live in the Heather and a light will only cause more congestion. St. Andrews and Country Way should not be able to make left turns here.. simple inexpensive fix. Although it would not have stopped this accident. The mustang being driven by teenagers pulled out in front of the truck where the speed limit is 60mph. These kids are not taught how to drive. Rules of crossing a highway, not being on the phone, how to pass someone, how to keep distance between cars, and avoid driving right next to someone. Safety first.

      Wednesday, 18 April 2018, 8:03 pm
      • Sadly, the young driver made a fatal error that resulted in his friend’s death.
