Auxiliary Deputy Arrested After Stealing Nearly $60K From His Elderly Mother
SPRING HILL – A former Hernando County Sheriff’s Auxiliary Deputy is charged with stealing nearly $60,000 from his own mother.
According to officials, Detectives began investigating the finances of 92-year-old Lorraine Miller, after her son Dwayne Miller noticed thousands of dollars missing from her bank account.
Dwayne has power of attorney over Lorraine’s finances and believed his brother, Larry Miller was using their mother’s account as his own.
Throughout the investigation, Detectives determined that Larry Miller deposited Lorraine’s social security into his Region’s account. It was also revealed that Larry fraudulently withdrew funds from her account, stole an insurance check, and even allowed his wife, Lynda Miller, to use Lorraine’s debit card to receive Botox treatments.
During an interview with Larry and Lynda, Detectives confirmed that Lorraine had been suffering from memory loss for about two-years and was completely incapacitated since the summer of 2017.
Officials say the couple stole a total of $57,712.11 from Lorraine and both have been charged with Exploitation of the Elderly.
Both are free on $5,000 bonds each.
Larry started working as an Auxiliary Deputy on October 25th, 2016. Sheriff Al Nienhuis terminated Larry Miller on March 3rd, 2018.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office does not release photos or mugshots of any agency employee, even if they face criminal charges.
