Week 5 features a rivalry game between Central and Weeki Wachee as well as district action for almost all the teams on the schedule. As always, I am joined by Derek J. LaRiviere who leads this season in correct picks by six games, but there is a lot of football left to be played! Welcome to Pigskin Prophets!

Game of the Week: Central (2-2) at Weeki Wachee (1-2) 7:30pm

Aiello Jr: Central, 28-27

LaRiviere: Central, 35-28

Derek’s Breakdown: Weeki Wachee holds a 2-1 advantage in the Battle of Hexam rivalry game, but this year’s contest is taking on a different plotline. Central QB Sebastian Rivera’s tragic accident earlier this week makes the game an afterthought as many pray for the family of that young man. Questions about how this will impact the Bears are certainly open to interpretation. Will the players be inspired to win for their friend or will they be deflated by grief? My guess is that, led by RB De’Vonta Smith, this group will come together.

Danny’s Breakdown:: Rivalry games are supposed to be fun for the crowds, and while sometimes heated, an overall enjoyable experience. This game takes on a whole new twist in terms of emotions. With the tragic accident involving Central QB Sebastian Rivera, the county as a whole is shaken to the core, no places more than these two schools. Before Weeki Wachee was built most of these kids were zoned in schools together and the connections and bonds are strong. In what will be an emotional game, probably at times sloppy, I expect these young men to lift the spirits of a community even if just for a few hours. In terms of the game itself, a lot will be going through the minds of Central players on the field, but I expect them to come out with a mean streak, a determination we’ve never seen from the Bears, in order to win this game for #3.
