Bicyclist Killed in Hit and Run Crash, Suspect Charged with DUI Manslaughter
HUDSON (PASCO) – An early morning hit and run crash claimed the life of a Hudson man, after a suspected drunk driver struck a bicycle and fled the scene.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Garrett Juhler-Robbins was driving a Pickup truck eastbound on SR-52, when he failed to stop for a traffic light at Chicago Ave. As a result, Robbins struck a bicyclist who was traveling southbound in the marked crosswalk.
The victim, 27-year-old Joseph Alan Barnes suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Officials say Robbins fled but was later stopped by Pasco County Sheriff’s Deputies, about two-miles from the scene.
Robbins was taken into custody and charged with DUI Manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash, and vehicular homicide.
