BREAKING: Deputies Forced to Shoot Armed Suspect During Standoff (Warning Graphic Images)
SPRING HILL – Numerous Deputies responded to Braemere Drive inside Arborglades Subdivision this evening, after reports of a possible weapons disturbance.
There are unconfirmed reports that a woman’s throat was cut by her husband during an altercation, and that a child witnessed the incident and reported it to authorities.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a woman and child outside the home, and a man, presumably the woman’s husband, barricaded inside the home.
It was soon revealed that the man was armed with a rifle and refused to exit, despite numerous commands.
Suddenly, a single shot rang out, raising concerns of a possible suicide attempt.
Within minutes deputies began yelling towards the home, stating “show your hands! Show your hands!” The man refused and re-entered the home.
Without warning, deputies began firing numerous rounds towards the front door of the home, striking the suspect several times.
Bayflite responded to the scene and transported the wounded suspect to Bayonet Point Hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
The woman did receive a superficial wound to the throat, but she did not appear to be seriously injured.
UPDATE: Officials say the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening at this time time.
UPDATE: May 4th 2015 – The following statement was provided by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office:
The deputy involved in this shooting incident is 38-year-old Deputy Daniel J. Snyder.
Deputy Snyder has been employed at the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office since 08-15-2010.
As per standard protocol, Deputy Snyder has been placed on paid administrative leave.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) will review the use of deadly force and will be working with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office on this investigation.
This incident is also under review by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit.
The suspect is identified as Kenneth Scott Bartram, W/M DOB/04-28-1968. Bartram is currently being treated for his injuries at a bay area trauma center. His condition is listed as stable at this time.
Bartram is charged as follows:
– Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
– Bond – $25,000.
