BREAKING: One in Custody after Arby’s Restaurant Robbery Attempt
UPDATE: 12/15/2015, 10:44 A.M. – Officials have released the full details in Monday’s “robbery” attempt. According to reports, 26-year-old Shawn Eugene Canon of Lando O’ Lakes, approached the register and ordered and ordered a large drink. He then handed the employee a $50.00 bill. The employee became suspicious of the bill and turned away from the open cash register to take a closer look. While the employee wasn’t looking, Canon reached over and grabbed a handful of cash and then ran out of the store. Canon was captured a short distance away and a total of $16.00 was recovered. The fifty dollar bill was determined to be counterfeit.
During an interview, Canon admitted to the theft; explaining that someone handed him three counterfeit $50 bills so that he could buy small items with each to get the remaining change. The entire incident was captured on video surveillance, confirming the chain of events.
Canon is charged with Retail Theft and Uttering a Forged Instrument. He remains behind bars at the Hernando County Jail, held on a $1,500 bond.
UPDATE: 12/14/2015, 9:03 P.M. – There are now conflicting reports regarding tonight’s alleged robbery attempt. Around 8:30 p.m., authorities confirmed that the incident was classified as a commercial robbery; however, after reviewing video surveillance from inside the restaurant, officials withdrew the robbery classification and may not provide an update until sometime tomorrow.

BROOKSVILLE – Information is still sketchy at this time but according to our sources a man walked into the Arby’s Restaurant on Cortez Blvd and committed a robbery. At this time there are no reports that the suspect used a weapon; however, that has not been confirmed. It is also not known if the suspect robbed an individual or the business.
A K-9 unit arrived on the scene and began tracking in the area of the new Wawa Convenience Store across the street from the Arby’s Restaurant. Within minutes, the suspect was captured near the front entrance of the CVS Pharmacy adjacent to the Wawa.
There are unconfirmed reports that the suspect has been positively identified and has confessed to the crime.
There are no reports of injuries at this time.
