Car Split in Half in Catastrophic Crash – Two Airlifted to Trauma Center
BROOKSVILLE – A catastrophic late night crash on Ponce De Leon Blvd prompted the response of two Bayflite helicopters, and left a trail of debris throughout a resident’s yard.
According to our sources, just after 11:00 p.m. last night, Fire Rescue responded to reports of a crash on Ponce De Leon Blvd, near Yontz Road. Upon arrival, Rescue Personnel discovered a Ford Focus that had been split in two – half came to rest in a neighbor’s yard and the other half in a tree line. A utility pole was sheared off, near the scene, leading to the belief that the vehicle struck the pole broadside – causing the car to split in two pieces.
At least two people sustained traumatic injuries and were extricated from the vehicle. Both were airlifted to Bayonet Point Hospital, where their condition remains unknown.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
Homeowner, Robin Jones, provided RNRF with horrific images from the scene.
