Car Split in Half in Catastrophic Crash – Two Airlifted to Trauma Center

BROOKSVILLE – A catastrophic late night crash on Ponce De Leon Blvd prompted the response of two Bayflite helicopters, and left a trail of debris throughout a resident’s yard.

According to our sources, just after 11:00 p.m. last night, Fire Rescue responded to reports of a crash on Ponce De Leon Blvd, near Yontz Road. Upon arrival, Rescue Personnel discovered a Ford Focus that had been split in two – half came to rest in a neighbor’s yard and the other half in a tree line. A utility pole was sheared off, near the scene, leading to the belief that the vehicle struck the pole broadside – causing the car to split in two pieces.

At least two people sustained traumatic injuries and were extricated from the vehicle. Both were airlifted to Bayonet Point Hospital, where their condition remains unknown.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

Homeowner, Robin Jones, provided RNRF with horrific images from the scene.

  • Each and ever time I read something on realnewsrealfast, I wonder how many people will have negative feedback . for instants shouldn’t we be praying to god for these two young souls? We should be praying for their families and for them to have a speedy recovery, instead of oh they shouldn’t have been speeding, let’s face it, each and ever one of us have been young, we’ve all speed before or done something that we shouldn’t have. And if you say you haven’t done anything wrong your a hypocrite. So to all the people who post negative things, I could careless of your feedback. but y’all just take a moment and think what if that was your family member , and someone was bashing them, you wouldn’t like that would you? Yeah some of you will say what you want because your pathetic but remember accidents do happen and even tho it may not be anyone’s fault, fate may be to blame. And To those of you who will argue this, god bless you! Jesus does love you and remember all the hateful comments you leave god does see. So remember that! Also I pray as a human being of the united States of America , someone who is guilty of speeding and doing things in my earlier years wrong, I pray for all involved , even tho they may not have been doing right they are human just like you and I , and I pray that you will heal them and show them your word! God bless y’all!!

  • Thanks for your kind words Unique07. This has happened several times over the last 35+ years. Better signage, a lower speed limit on this curve, gaurd rail or all of the above are desperately needed. Or, a four way flashing red light. This is where people commonly try to get in front of a slower vehicle because it’s the only place on the road that is four lanes.

  • Prayers are with the injured and their families, I hope God touches them to help them heal. Sounds like they are so young and have a long life ahead of them. If they were racing with the Mustang I’m curious if the driver of the Mustaang have any concern for these 2 once the vehicle went out of control. Perhaps that person will think twice before racing, next time we could be reading about you.
Robin I could not imagine what you seen but thank God you were able to be their until medical help arrived, you were God’s?Angel at this time of need. These children were not alone and having you there gave them a sense of reliief of not being alone and help was on it’s way.
Jim I will pray for you????????????
David this is the profession the fire rescuers chose and are accustomed to seeing. Robin did not ask to have this in her front yard but Thank God for our Fire Fighters, our Police Officers and Ambulance Peramedics!

  • The beer cans do not mean the driver was drinking. Reckless driving, obviously. I still hope they pull through regardless of the factors.

    Alcohol and speeding?

    Saturday, 5 March 2016, 2:38 pm
  • Im bored life sucks

    Saturday, 5 March 2016, 12:40 pm
  • People are always flying on the back roads. Especially Powell, Cedar Lane, and other roads back there. People are driving way too fast and they are really aggressive. I wouldn’t dare be on a bicycle anywhere in Brooksville. They either aim for you or they come up too fast.

  • It actually came off the road sliding down the embankment eventually turning sideways because you can see 4 distinct tire marks digging into the right of way for about 200 feet. It continued to slide into the drainage ditch where there was concrete culvert wall that the car struck. The force of that impact flipped the car causing it to go airborn due to the high rate of speed. The car then slammed into a palm tree at the end of my fence line. This is where the car APPEARED to actually split apart with the back half of the car coming to rest on the highway and the other half in my yard. The distance between the two halves was about 70 to 75 feet when all was said and done. You could actually hear the car flipping and impacting different objects throughout the crash cycle. Folks, this it is a deafening sound that makes you cringe as you wonder……my God, when will it stop! It seems it went on for 15 or 20 seconds, which in the case of a car crash, is forever. And then, to see two young people moving in a car (In HALF a car) and yelling “Someone…please help me!” You don’t forget that anytime soon.
