Cars Stolen in Coordinated Early Morning Dealership Heist, Brazen Details Revealed

HERNANDO – At least two major auto dealerships were burglarized last night, in what is suspected to be a well-organized and coordinated heist that occurred in the early morning hours.

We spoke to “Diane” a representative of Crystal Dodge, Chrysler, located at 14358 Cortez Blvd who said according to surveillance video they were broken into around 4:40 a.m. this morning. Diane says at least five masked suspects broke into the dealership and stole two vehicles, computers, laptops, and other items.

Diane says the burglars used one of their vehicles to smash through a large chain-link gate that separates the service department from the back lot. It is suspected that the thieves used keys stored in the dealership to steal the two cars.

On video surveillance, Diane says she could see the burglars lie down when cars would pass-by to avoid detection. Like a Hollywood action film, Diane says one of the vehicles was pursued by a Sheriff’s Deputy after they pulled off the lot. The pursuit was called off after it reached excessive speeds, according to Diane. After the coast was clear, Diane says the second vehicle drove off the lot without being detected.

An abandoned vehicle was located a short distance away that some believe was used to transport the burglars to the scene. It is believed to be stolen but we have not confirmed that information with officials.

We spoke to Jeff Miner of Flammer Ford who said they were broken into around the same time but they are still trying to determine what was stolen. Flammer Ford is located at 3335 Commercial Way.

Last month, Jim Brown Citrus Chrysler, Dodge in Dade City (Pasco) had five Dodge Challengers and Chargers stolen in a similar late night incident. It is not known if the incidents are related but details of the brazen heists are nearly identical.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released a statement at this time.

We will bring more on this story as it develops.

  • Becauzican, my brother is the GM at one of the dealerships hit and they were definitely not short for the month. This is an organized group/gang out of Orlando that have been doing this for a long time and are branching out farther to find new dealerships to hit. It is not an inside job, as these are thugs using these cars to commit other crimes. Do your research you uninformed idiot!!!!

  • Lol, yeah an inside job, sure. Like I said, do yourself a favor, read the other article and it will tell you who hit the dealerships, as in plural, as in other owners, as in other brands, not even in this county. Try not being so judgemental, and for the love of God, take your foil hat off.

  • haha “Outstanding Citizens” sorry I had to laugh at that. I know for a fact that dealership goes as far as asking employees to buy or trade in their cars because they are “Short” I still stand …It was an inside job. They have alarms etc and none go off?… very suspicious

  • Becauz: The Lambs (owners of this and 3 other dealers) are upstanding citizens and definitely don’t need insurance money. Place the blame where it lies, with the scumbags who did it, and were apprehended in Citrus County. thanks.

  • Crime in the “Hill” is out of control. And Hernando County sounded like such a nice place to move too.

  • I call it Karma. Who is to say this is not an inside job to collect insurance maybe their numbers were really low for the month…just a thought.

  • Pitiful what has become of our society. Monkey see, monkey do crimes as with the smash and grab, phony rear end accidents and stop light car robberies.
Maybe when the private security armed guards or off duty police handle this situation the right way at one or two dealerships the tugs will think twice about their antics.

  • What happened to the good old LOUD alarm systems?
They charge enough for their cars, they should be able to afford a good system.

  • i worked in tampa as overnight security years ago and our company mainly did car lots. The one on hillsborough ave had over a dozen cars stolen in one weekend before they hired security. A customer car had a high tech gps locator and the car was already on a cargo vessel the next day. Like I said in a previous post, theres the no pursuit policy and the felon one has to be approved. For the most part pursuit is discontinued fast. Welcome to the liability world where now the officers wont pursue anymore. Make sure your insurance is paid up and coverage covers theft. Insurance companies will try to weasel out of most anything. People dont think we have organized crime enter in this county well think again.

  • You know register and Rick Matthews are next. Just a matter of time.

    Tuesday, 2 August 2016, 6:33 pm
    • Maybe Register but not Matthews, sounds like only high performance is the theft of the day.

      Tuesday, 2 August 2016, 9:46 pm
  • I suggest sheriff’s office send 2 or 3 officers to calls like this and 1or 2 stay on scene to check/catch second wave. Group #2 calmly drove off laughing I’m sure. Organized (especially) & The Mad One are both correct.

    • Unbelievable offers a solution AFTER it is known how everything in this one transpired,
Bet he/she knew all the answers on tests in school AFTER they came back corrected.

  • Scumbags will take whatever they can from whoever they can, just so they won’t have to work for it. In truth they’re either being chopped and sold or like you said.. In containers headed to South America.

  • I’m sure those cars are in transport containers in Tampa, or Miami on their way overseas. This happens more then you think.

    Tuesday, 2 August 2016, 3:00 pm
  • These cars are long gone. Hitting smaller towns with what they hoped (I guess they were right!) without a security guard overnight. Jerks.

    Tuesday, 2 August 2016, 2:47 pm
  • Boy, these guys are in real trouble if caught, our system will probably give them bond at $100 or more. Where is the deterrent to stop these thugs from the things they do?
