Cars Stolen in Coordinated Early Morning Dealership Heist, Brazen Details Revealed
HERNANDO – At least two major auto dealerships were burglarized last night, in what is suspected to be a well-organized and coordinated heist that occurred in the early morning hours.
We spoke to “Diane” a representative of Crystal Dodge, Chrysler, located at 14358 Cortez Blvd who said according to surveillance video they were broken into around 4:40 a.m. this morning. Diane says at least five masked suspects broke into the dealership and stole two vehicles, computers, laptops, and other items.
Diane says the burglars used one of their vehicles to smash through a large chain-link gate that separates the service department from the back lot. It is suspected that the thieves used keys stored in the dealership to steal the two cars.
On video surveillance, Diane says she could see the burglars lie down when cars would pass-by to avoid detection. Like a Hollywood action film, Diane says one of the vehicles was pursued by a Sheriff’s Deputy after they pulled off the lot. The pursuit was called off after it reached excessive speeds, according to Diane. After the coast was clear, Diane says the second vehicle drove off the lot without being detected.
An abandoned vehicle was located a short distance away that some believe was used to transport the burglars to the scene. It is believed to be stolen but we have not confirmed that information with officials.
We spoke to Jeff Miner of Flammer Ford who said they were broken into around the same time but they are still trying to determine what was stolen. Flammer Ford is located at 3335 Commercial Way.
Last month, Jim Brown Citrus Chrysler, Dodge in Dade City (Pasco) had five Dodge Challengers and Chargers stolen in a similar late night incident. It is not known if the incidents are related but details of the brazen heists are nearly identical.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released a statement at this time.
We will bring more on this story as it develops.
