Child Brings Hand Grenade to School, Makes
BROOKSVILLE – Earlier, RNRF broke the news of a bomb threat at Suncoast Elementary, located at 11135 Quality Drive. After arriving on the scene, officials told RNRF that the situation was under control and there was no longer a threat to students or faculty.
A spokesperson with the Sheriff’s Office says, just after 10:00 a.m. Deputies and Fire Rescue responded to the school, after a student brought a hollowed out hand grenade and made some “inappropriate statements.” There are unconfirmed reports that the student stated “I’m going to blow up the school.”
The Assistant Principle escorted the student to the office and confiscated the grenade.
The child was not taken into custody or charged in with a crime. School administrators say they will handle the situation without law enforcement intervention.
