Citrus County Courthouse Evacuated After Suspicious Substance Discovered by Employee
UPDATE: 6:04 P.M. – The Citrus County Courthouse has been cleared of any suspicious substance after a concern for public safety arose earlier this afternoon. This occurred after a clerk’s office employee found what looked like a white substance inside of an envelope. The clerk’s office employee quickly alerted a supervisor and proper procedures were followed. The Citrus Sheriff’s Office Hazmat team assessed the situation inside and determined that the substance was suspected envelope paper dust that resembled a white substance. The courthouse will remain closed the rest of the day today but reopen at 7:30am Thursday morning.
INVERNESS (CITRUS) – The Citrus County Courthouse has been evacuated after an employee found white powdery substance in an envelope.
According to officials, as a precautionary measure all employees and visitors have been asked to evacuate, while a HAZMAT team assists Fire Rescue in determining what the substance is.
There have been no injuries reported at this time.
