Coal Truck Catches Fire While Traveling on I-75, No Injuries Reported

BROOKSVILLE – Firefighters responded to the area of I-75 and Cortez Blvd this morning, after receiving several reports that a coal truck was on fire and still in motion.

The truck driver eventually realized that his 21 tons of coal was burning and pulled off the roadway into the median, west of I-75.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and doused the burning coal with water.

A small amount of coal spilled onto the roadway but the majority remained inside the trailer.

There are no reports of injuries to either the driver or firefighters.

Traffic is moving smoothly in both directions of Cortez Blvd.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
