Convicted Felon Accidentally Shoots Himself After Dropping Handgun
HUDSON – 35-Year-Old Jason Trigger didn’t have to pull the “trigger” yesterday, when he accidentally shot himself inside a Dollar General Store on US-19. That’s what officials say happened around 3:30 p.m., when Trigger walked into the store with a .22 cal. handgun in his waistband. Upon entering the store, the gun fell out of his waistband and landed on the floor, causing it to discharge. Trigger was struck in the right ankle and fled the scene. Trigger was located a short time later, after he checked himself in at Bayonet Point Hospital for treatment. Officials say a background check revealed that Trigger is a convicted felon; subsequently, Trigger was charged with being in possession of a firearm.
Trigger has numerous prior arrests, include grand theft, drug possession, burglary, and arson.
Trigger’s exact intentions for entering the store with a loaded handgun are unknown at this time.
