Convicted Sex Offender Arrested, Victim Says Suspect Raped Her at 6-years-old
BROOKSVILLE – A convicted sex offender and suspected child rapist is behind bars today, after officials say he violated the terms of his release and threatened the victim.
According to reports, on July 17th of this year Detectives with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office received testimony from the alleged victim that 64-year-old Gary Charles Mochnick raped her when she was just 6-years-old. Investigators also learned that Mochnick threatened the victim during a recent visitation. The identity, age and relationship of the victim have not been released.
According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Mochnick served nearly four years behind bars for being in possession of child pornography and another three years for violating parole, after his release in 2009. Mochnick was just released on August 1st of this year and placed back on Parole until January 2017. Just one month after his release, Mochnick is behind bars again for allegedly threatening and the current victim.
The heavily redacted report only states that during the visitation Mochnick is observed on surveillance video becoming upset with the victim and blaming her for his incarceration. No further details have been provided and the case into the sexual battery is still under investigation.
Mochnick is held on a $100,000 bond for tampering with the witness, $1,000 bond for violating a domestic violence injunction 28-times, and no bond for violation sexual offender requirements.
