Crossing Guards Pull Child to Safety After Near Collision
BROOKSVILLE – Two Sherriff’s Office Crossing Guards are being hailed as heroes today, after saving a young boy from being struck by a vehicle.
Last Friday, Mike Bachmayer and Sonny Isabell were working the intersection of Ken Austin Parkway and Sunshine Grove Road, when they noticed a truck fail to stop for the red light on Sunshine Grove.
According to witnesses, a young boy walking to school was in the middle of the intersection at the same time the truck ran the light. Bachmayer and Isabell grabbed the boy and pulled him to safety – avoiding the collision. The driver of the truck was able to stop and no one was injured.
Hernando County Schools Superintendent Lori Romano said, “We have the most vigilant crossing guards in Hernando County. Their attentiveness helps ensure that our students arrive and exit school safe and sound every day,” she said. “Mr. Isabell and Mr. Bachmayer will receive commendations for their service at an upcoming school board meeting.”
Officials did not say if the driver of the truck was cited for the violation.
