Deputy Injured After Punching Violent Suspect in the Face, Unrelated Suspect Faces 5-Counts, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping
HERNANDO – The Sheriff’s Office is reporting two major case arrests today; one that resulted in a Sheriff’s Deputy injuring his hand while attempting to subdue a violent suspect.
Deputies responded to the 8300 block of Omaha Circle around 2:25 a.m. Monday, after reports of a domestic battery in progress. Officials aren’t commenting on the details of the case but according to sources, deputies observed 41-year-old Lorenzo Telly Roundtree dragging a female victim into a nearby wooded area where he strangled her. Witnesses say Roundtree fought with Deputies when they tried to stop the attack, resulting in one of the Deputies severely injuring his hand after punching him in the face. One witness says Roundtree was completely knocked out from the deputy’s punch, giving them the opportunity to secure him with handcuffs.
Roundtree is charged with Kidnapping, Assault on LEO, Battery by Strangulation, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of Cocaine. Bond has been set at $16,000 but Roundtree is being held without bond due to violating felony probation.
Roundtree has an extensive violent criminal history, including several Domestic Battery, Battery on LEO, Resisting Arrest, and drug charges.
Officials would not identify or comment on the injured Deputy but sources say he suffered severe injuries that will require numerous surgeries to repair damage to his hand.
There is no information the victim’s condition at this time.
Officials say Roundtree is facing one count of Attempted Murder but that charge was not mentioned during a First Appearance Hearing this morning.

Officials aren’t releasing the details of the home invasion at this time.
