Detective’s Unmarked SUV Struck During Pursuit, Search for Suspect Forces School Lockdown
SHADY HILLS – Residents living in the Shady Hills neighborhood were on edge this morning, after dozens of law enforcement officers from several agencies converged in the area of Peace Blvd and Shady Hills Road.
According to Pasco County Officials, the agency’s Fugitive Warrants Unit was attempting to locate 26-year-old Jesse Alonso on outstanding warrants when a Detective noticed Alonso’s Toyota Camry pass by. Detectives followed the vehicle to Hudson Ridge Apartments where they attempted a traffic stop. Alonso refused to stop and began fleeing towards the rear of the complex, striking an unmarked Ford Explorer in the process. The pursuit continued until Alonso reached Tiger Trail, where he lost control and crashed. Alonso fled on foot, leaving an injured female passenger in the vehicle. The passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
After an intense search, Alonso was located in a wooded area near the scene of the crash and taken into custody.
Officials have not release information on Alonso’s charges at this time.
Alonso has a long criminal history, including several drug possession, grand theft, and battery charges.
Shady Hills Elementary was on lockdown during the search, due to concerns that Alonso may have been armed with a handgun.
