DEVELOPING: Natural Gas Line Break Prompts Evacuation

BROOKSVILLE – Fire Rescue is on the scene of a gas line break at the intersection of Roberta Ave and Martin Luther King Blvd.

There are unconfirmed reports that construction workers struck a TECO natural gas line with a backhoe.

Fire Officials are assessing the situation at this time. Traffic has been diverted from the area and a one thousand foot evacuation has been ordered. A Nearby Daycare is within the evacuation zone.

UPDATE: 5/26/2015, 10:26 P.M. – We have now learned that a representative with TECO was able to shut off the flow of gas.
At least 14 children and 5 adults were evacuated from the daycare and relocated to a pest control business behind the Taco Bell.
Businesses along Broad Street will be without gas for several hours as repairs are made to the gas line.

We will bring more on this story as it develops.

  • I just want to thank the school/daycare for their quick evacuation. My daughter could have been injured. I love the fact I know I can leave her there and she is going to be taken care of and protected. ABC development center is the best school.
