DEVELOPING: Two Young Children Airlifted After Near Drowning – UPDATE
WEEKI WACHEE – Around 6:30 pm, RNRF received unconfirmed reports of two possible near drownings at the 5400 block of Darlene Street.
Sources tell RNRF that a one to two-year-old child was discovered floating in a body of water and was not responsive. An off duty EMT who was visiting the home was able to resuscitate the child.
We soon learned that a second child, around the same age, may have suffered a near drowning at the same location.
Both victims were transported to a landing zone at Weeki Wachee Christian Camp, where they were airlifted to an area trauma center.
RNRF is waiting on word from officials, regarding the condition of both victims.
UPDATE: According to Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson, Denise Moloney, the two children injured in the Saturday’s boating accident have been released from the hospital and are not expected to have medical issues from the incident.
Moloney says there have been no reports of the boat being operated in a reckless manner, despite some witness accounts. “…one party in the boat stood up, causing the boat to shift, and the two small children to fall out,” according to Moloney.
