Dozens Targeted in Valentine’s Day Burglaries
HERNANDO – While couples were passing out flowers, candy, and sentimental cards, on Valentine’s Day, burglars were taking advantage of the opportunity to steal from unsuspecting business owners.
The first incident took place early Sunday morning, at the Dollar General Store located at 6120 Commercial Way, where burglars attempted to break into the store by prying open the side of the building. It’s not known at this time if the suspect(s) was able to gain entry or remove items from the store. Local management did not wish to comment and referred us to their corporate headquarters.
The second incident occurred at Paul & Jerry’s Self Storage, located at 10161 County Line Road, where upwards of 26 storage units may have been broken into. A spokesperson with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office says “Multiple units at the business were burglarized and we are still actively working the investigation. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call us or Crime Stoppers.”
We spoke to an employee with Paul & Jerry’s but they declined to comment on the case.
Anyone with information on either case should contact the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office at 352-754-6830.
