Driver Crashes into Utility Pole, Moments After Fleeing from Traffic Stop
UPDATE: 10/19/2016, 1:04 P.M. – 55-year-old Gilberto Valentin is charged with DUI, DUI with Property Damage, and Fleeing to Elude. Valentin remains behind bars on a $2,000 bond.
SPRING HILL – A suspected drunk driver is lucky to be alive this evening after he crashed his SUV into a utility pole near the intersection of Cortez Blvd and Shoal Line Blvd.
There are unconfirmed reports that the driver fled from a traffic stop at the intersection of Commercial Way and Cortez Blvd just minutes before the crash.
It should be noted that the deputy discontinued the pursuit, immediately after determining that the vehicle was not going to stop.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash but it is not known if the driver will face charges for fleeing or driving under the influence.
