DUI Driver Rear-Ends Patrol Car, Injures Deputy
SPRING HILL – Yesterday RNRF reported a crash on Deltona Blvd that injured a Hernando County Sheriff’s Deputy. ORIGINAL REPORT
According to officials, Deputy Derrin Burger was transported to a local hospital and later released after being treated for minor injuries.
During the accident investigation, Deputy Brian Smith detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the at-fault driver, 21-year-old Jeremy Alan O’Brien. Dep. Smith noticed that O’Brien had bloodshot, watery eyes, and dilated pupils, so he proceeded to conduct a battery of sobriety tests on O’Brien. Dep. Smith determined that O’Brien was impaired and placed him into custody for driving under the influence.
O’Brien remains behind bars at the Hernando County Jail – held on a $1,000 bond.
