SPRING HILL – A short pursuit led to one arrest this morning, after Florida Highway Patrol Trooper attempted a traffic stop on Spring Hill Drive.
There aren’t many details at this time, but according to preliminary details provided by the FHP, 20-year-old Orson Austin Newcomb refused to stop for Lieutenant Glenny, resulting in a short pursuit that ended on Meredith Drive.
There are unconfirmed reports that Newcomb initially refused to comply with Glenny’s commands to exit the vehicle, but he was eventually taken into custody.
At this time Officials say Newcomb will be charged with DUI but additional charges may be pending.
We will update this story as more information becomes available.
It should be noted that the Florida Highway Patrol pursuit policy is different than the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. HCSO will not pursue suspects unless they have committed a forcible felony, like homicide, armed robbery, etc. FHP has the authority to pursue a suspect for lesser offenses.
