Elderly Man Uninjured After Car Collides with Freight Train
ZEPHYRHILLS (PASCO) – A Tampa man is lucky to be alive today, after the car he was driving was struck by a CSX freight train.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 75-year-old Clayton Leo Zwak was traveling westbound on Melrose Ave approaching a railroad crossing at Old Lakeland Highway. Zwak drove his 2011 Cadillac onto the first set of the double tracks and stopped, as a CSX service truck was traveling on the second set of tracks. At that time, a train began approaching from the south, causing the railroad crossing arm to lower onto Zwak’s car. Moments later, a train operated by three engines and carrying 79 cars, struck Zwak’s vehicle.
Zwak was not injured and the train did not derail as a result of the crash.
