Elderly Woman Missing for Two Days, Search to Continue Through Sunday
INVERNESS (CITRUS) – A massive search is underway for an elderly woman who disappeared from her home in the Seven Lakes Subdivision on Thursday.
According to officials, 72-year-old Carol McHugh walked away from her home around 3:30 p.m. Thursday and has not been heard from since. Dozens of sheriff’s deputies and private citizens have conducted a massive search of over 14,720 acres , according to the latest report.
Sheriff Prendergast said in a statement on social media, “We have deployed every tool available since we were notified she went missing Thursday night”Officials say over the past few days, detectives and Public Service Officers have handed out hundreds of flyers to nearby business, neighbors and scoped out all places that Carol is known to frequent. Local hospitals and 23 surrounding hospitals, medical transport companies, and taxis have all been checked several times. Although the results have been negative thus far, there is still the potential for Carol to show up seeking medical attention. According to her family, Carol was a healthcare professional for her entire career, say officials.
Search efforts are expected to continue tonight and through Sunday.
Carol is described as 5’1″, 113 lbs. with brown hair. The picture below depicts what she was last seen wearing on the day of her disappearance.
