Fire Severely Damages Brooksville Church – Arson Suspected

BROOKSVILLE – Fire Rescue responded to the 22000 block of Lake Lindsey Road this morning, after a witness called 911 to report a fire inside the Lake Lindsey United Methodist Church.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered two separate unoccupied buildings partially engulfed in flames.

Authorities have not released an official report at this time but according to our sources, the fires do appear to be intentionally set.

The Sheriff’s Office has established a crime scene and the State Fire Marshal is en route to investigate the cause of the fire.

There are no reports of injury or damage to other neighboring structures.

One witness told RNRF that the church was a historic landmark and that his family has attended for decades.

A tearful Rhonda Lilly says “We’re all devastated… We were such a small group and always did nice things for the community.” I asked what should happen to the person or persons responsible for the fire if they are ever caught, she said “I hope they punish them and I hope they punish them good.”

A wedding ceremony was scheduled to be conducted at the church later this afternoon.

We will bring more on this story as it develops.

  • Has Lake Lindsey become crime riddled? What a travesty! A church that would welcome you if you walked in barefooted, or so 40/50 years ago. A church that was glad you could come to service. A church that made You welcomed. Hope it is still that way and will be having services soon. May God forgive the criminal, but hold him/her accountable for his/her crime.
