Football Returns to Hernando County: Week 1 Predictions
Welcome back football. It has been a long offseason and now Hernando County is ready to turn on the bright lights of Friday Night Football. Joining me is Derek J. LaRiviere, who is the reigning, defending, undisputed Pick ‘Em champion of 2015, and the two of us will be breaking down a game of the week along with all district games for the Hernando County squads. So without anymore pleasantries, welcome to Pigskin Prophets.
Game of the Week: Springstead (0-0) at Central (0-0) 7:30pm
Aiello Jr: Springstead, 28-20
LaRiviere: Central, 27-21
Derek’s Breakdown: Springstead showed a ton of firepower to end last season and even into the spring, but after sputtering in their preseason loss to Hudson last week, can Jordan Wright and company get back on track against rival Central? Remember, the Bears knocked off the Eagles to open up last season’s underwhelming campaign with a shocking upset at Booster Stadium. Now at the Bear Den, Central will rely on De’Vonta Smith to carry the load in hopes of a repeat performance.
Danny’s Breakdown: Last year we both picked Springstead to win big in week one despite a sputtering offense in the preseason. Wouldn’t you know the Bears came out with a statement victory, as Central knocked off Springstead to open the season and sent shockwaves through the county. This year, the game will be a close one and if Jordan Wright plays up to potential, he can command an offense that will avenge that loss. That is a big if though, because Springstead looked very bad in the Kickoff Classic, while Central had no issues scoring. The Eagles defense had better come ready to play, because if they don’t, De’Vonta Smith and the Bears will turn this into a laugher. I’m taking Springstead, but I’m not very confident in it.
OVERALL RECORDS – Last Season: Aiello Jr: 99-52, LaRiviere 110-41
