Fugitives Captured After Hit and Run – Woman “Stands Her Ground”
SPRING HILL – Last night, dozens of law enforcement officers converged in the area of Spring Hill Drive, near Pinehurst Drive, an attempt to capture local career criminal and known gang member, 26-year-old Thomas Caron.
According to officials, around 8:30 p.m. the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a hit and run accident in front of a residence at the 6400 block of Spring Hill Drive. The driver of one vehicle, Thomas Caron, and his passenger, 27-year-old Samantha Perkins, fled the scene on foot, prior to the arrival of law enforcement. With knowledge of who they were pursuing, the Sheriff’s Office deployed a K9 unit and tracked the pair to the area of Galgano Lane and Garrison Street. While searching the immediate area, Deputy Joe Merando says he noticed a 2006 grey Ford Escape parked in the driveway of 8263 Galgano Lane, with the couple hiding inside. Caron and Perkins were taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Hernando County Jail.
Prior to their capture, the couple tried to enter a residence on Omaha Circle in an attempt to hide from Law Enforcement. According to Tina Cash, while standing in her doorway she noticed Caron and Perkins running towards her apartment. Cash says Perkin’s face was bloody and Caron appeared to be “on something” when they screamed “We need a place to hide!” Cash says she stood her ground at the doorway and yelled at them to leave, while calling 911. Cash was home alone at the time, with young toddlers inside the apartment.
Caron faces charges of Burglary and Resisting Arrest, in addition to three felony warrants and criminal traffic violations, related to the vehicle accident. Caron remains behind bars, held without bond.
Caron has been in and out of Prison since 2007, and was just released in July, after serving less than 4 months of a 5-year-sentence on numerous drug and theft charges.
Samantha Perkins is charged with Trespassing and for an unrelated warrant for Battery out of Hernando County. Perkins remains behind bars, held without bond.
