Gruesome Discovery inside New Port Richey Apartment, Man Charged with First-Degree Murder
NEW PORT RICHEY – Pasco County Sheriff’s Deputies made a gruesome discovery Sunday, after the body of a missing woman was found inside a New Port Richey apartment.
Officials say the victim, Christine Nelson, left her residence on August 3rd, around 7:00 p.m. to visit 57-year-old Roy Toro at his apartment located at 6900 Menifee Court. Family reported Nelson missing on August 5th, after she failed to return home. Nelson was insulin dependent and family says she did not take insulin with her when she left.
Sheriff’s Deputies located Nelson’s vehicle parked in front of Toro’s apartment, and by pinging her cellphone, they determined that she might be inside. Deputies became increasingly concerned when they noticed dried blood on the curtain of a rear window. Deputies eventually made entry into the apartment, where they discovered Nelson’s body covered in blood and lying on the living room floor. Deputies also discovered Toro in his bedroom with several shallow stab wounds and a knife still dangling from his neck. Toro had covered himself with a blanket and was unresponsive. Toro was taken to a local hospital for treatment, where doctors determined that none of his injuries were life-threatening.
Officials say Nelson suffered severe blunt trauma and several knife wounds to her head. She also had numerous stab wounds on her torso and two broken arms. Investigators say it appears that Nelson’s head had been slammed on the floor several times, due to obvious severe trauma to her face and head. An autopsy confirmed Nelson’s death to be the result of stab wounds and blunt trauma.
During the investigation, Detectives found evidence that Toro had had attempted to destroy evidence by cleaning blood from the floor, ceiling, walls, and furniture.
On Tuesday, Investigators interviewed Toro while was still in the hospital and advised him that he was being charged with First Degree Murder.
