Hazmat Incident at Hernando County Jail Prompts Shut Down of Heating System
UPDATE: 9:57 P.M. – One of the housing units, referred to as a Pod, is being evacuated at this time. Ventilation efforts are expected to continue.
BROOKSVILLE – It’s going to be a cold night for some inmates inside the Hernando County Jail, after a propane leak prompted the shut off of fuel that feeds the facility’s heating system.
Several Firefighters and a Hazmat Unit are on scene at the facility, located at 16425 Spring Hill Drive, where they are attempting to ventilate a large section at this time.
It is unknown if any inmates have been evacuated or relocated to other areas of the jail.
There are no reports of injuries to firefighters, inmates, or jail staff.
