  • Hey guys we are looking for the gentleman and the lady who helped my Mom and sister when the accident happened. They went above what most people would do today

  • I have never lived in a area that has had so many auto crashes until I moved here to Hernando county.

  • Honestly there is a lot of accidents there, I wonder if maybe Tom you could guide us to whom we can speak with regarding that intersection?

    • No joke, I’m with you: install red-light cameras at this school-crossing intersection, hit the red-light runners with giant fines, stick them in the county jail, and shame them publicly. Mugshots, anyone? The tailgating and the speeding and the red-light running have to be stopped. These aggressive drivers are hurting the rest of us.

Courts are able to give civics lessons that are backed by punishment. Throw the licenses of repeat offenders into the Withlacoochie River and require the lawbreakers to pay to get them back–IF they can requalify for a driver’s license. How many people have to be harmed, how much property has to be destroyed, before the Sheriffs enforce the motor vehicle laws? We all know that this is a dangerous intersection. Anyone who drives through it knows this. This intersection is begging to be repaired.

I wonder: can people who are hurt and have property damaged sue county “leaders” when these leaders are informed about such a serious problem as this, for which they are responsible, and yet they do nothing?

  • This intersection is even more dangerous than normal because the roadway has a significant bump in it right in the middle of the intersection. Drivers have to slow their vehicles or their vehicles can become destabilized. If you drive at 40 mph (the speed limit) or faster over this bump, vehicles are bounced significantly. Many drivers do not slow for it–some even do the “yellow means go faster” routine. The drivers that do slow for it can create momentary congestion that can be dangerous for the drivers who are trying to speed on through. It’s a set up for bumper cars.

The bump is on Northcliffe where northeast-bound Deltona crosses it. The bump is especially pronounced for vehicles in the left lane of Deltona where it crosses the intersection of Northcliffe (heading to Forest Oaks). It’s been there for years. There have been many accidents here. And this is a school-crossing intersection, with all the additional concerns for the children and the guards. The guards do a very good job, but they have their hands full already, with their normal responsibilities, even without this additional hazard. Spring Hill has many speeders and tailgaters. Please level this bump, Hernando County. It’s a known hazard. We’re counting on you to do the right thing.

  • That intersection is terrible. The timing on the traffic lights is way off. There have been many accidents or near misses, here. I don’t know why they don’t sync. the traffic lights better.
