With week one in the books, the rust and jitters of opening night are behind the county teams. Our spotlight this week focuses on the lone all-Hernando County game as Hernando (0-1) travels to Springstead (0-1). As always, I am joined by Derek J. LaRiviere as we welcome you to Pigskin Prophets!

Game of the Week: Hernando (0-1) at Springstead (0-1)

Aiello Jr: Hernando, 20-10

LaRiviere: Hernando, 28-14

Derek’s Breakdown: Hernando lost in an opening week barn-burner at Fivay, 41-40 in overtime. It was an amazing game in which the Leopards flexed the muscle of their rushing attack. However, the defense was unable to contain Fivay’s passing game. Springstead showed an ability to throw the ball last week against Central, but too many drives stalled just outside the 20-yard line. If the Eagles are going to turn things around, they have to get the ground game going as well. This is a Springstead team that looks totally out of rhythm right now.

Danny’s Breakdown: Springstead has dropped three straight games if you count the preseason games, and looks like a shell of the team many have grown used to seeing play. Hernando might have blown a three touchdown lead last week at Fivay, but the Leopards managed to put up 40 points. The Eagles have the ability to pass on Hernando and control the Leopards ground game, but the question will be which Springstead team decides to show up.
