High School Football returns for Hernando, Pasco and Citrus counties tonight with a full slate of preseason football. Each week I will be joined by Derek J. LaRiviere from the Tampa Bay Times as we pick the week’s games. For live coverage of each game, follow Derek and myself on Twitter by clicking the links below!

Enough with the pleasantries, now it is time to kick-off (Pun Intended) our 2015 Picks!

Game of the Week Fivay at Weeki Wachee

Derek’s Breakdown: The Hornets have taken great strides as a program over the past two years. Division I prospect Shawn O’Gorman has gained headlines in the backfield, but he did most of his damage as a receiver from then-sophomore quarterback Alec Cromie. With both returning, Weeki Wachee has some pretty high expectations for 2015. Meanwhile, the Falcons are in a similar situation with Cyler Doran under center. After a breakout campaign, the junior is expected to open up the Fivay offense.

Derek’s Pick: Weeki Wachee 31, Fivay 28

Danny’s Breakdown: Weeki Wachee is truly at a critical junction as a program, with this being the year they have to deliver. Alec Cromie is arguably the best quarterback in Hernando County and he will need to have poise and use his weapons if the Hornets want to contend in their new district. Fivay is led by Doran who has the ability to win any game, if he is given the reigns of course.

Danny’s Pick: Weeki Wachee 28, Fivay 27

  • Well after watching the Leopards play Friday night, I see this program has gone
down an awful lot. They will have a very long season this year. Hopefully the Coaches they have (all two of them) can get atleast two wins under their belt. Good luck Leopards stay strong and keep believing.
