Homeowner Captures Purple Faced Pill Popper During Burglary Attempt

BROOKSVILLE – Just after midnight Tuesday morning, Deputies responded to 7601 Moriah Ave, after reports of a burglary attempt at that location.

According to reports, Deputy Vincent Mascitelli made contact with the homeowners, Robert Walsh and Kathleen Kennedy who claimed their neighbor, 29-year-old Ralph Mullins attempted to break into their home. Walsh says the smell of cigarette smoke alerted him to someone being inside the garage; when he went to investigate, he discovered Mullins holding a machete style knife and his face covered in purple paint. Walsh immediately grabbed a stick and told Mullins not to move while they waited for Law Enforcement.

During the arrest, Deputy Mascitelli observed Mullins’ face to be covered in purple paint and wearing all black clothing. Mascitelli also discovered a knife in his possession and another near a lanai with a cut screen.

Mullins admitted to the attempted burglary during an interview; stating “I’m an addict and I wanted to steal painkillers.”

Mullins is charged with Armed Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and Possession of Burglary Tools. He is currently behind bars – held on $8,000 bond.

  • Or he could’ve agreed to be a CI and the only way people wouldn’t think he snitches is he has to have some type of charge. For every one person that cooperates they must set at least 2 people up. Get probation and the freedom to keep abusing as long as they’ll help the deputies when they ask.

  • Addiction is a horrible disease, it takes control and causes its “victims” to do the unthinkable. These people are not always “pieces of S***”…. As some describe them, they are someone’s child, brother, mother or friend, addiction does not discriminate. Breaking into someone’s home with a weapon is absolutely wrong and he should face consequences, however he still needs some help, which there are not many services in our State that theses young people can afford, so please remember when posting comments to loose the name calling and be thankful that you aren’t struggling or watching a love one struggle with this horrible horrible disease of addiction.

  • Doc, people FROM Hernando Co. damn sure wouldn’t live in Brookridge!

    Thursday, 12 November 2015, 5:19 pm
  • Hey Judge, what is wrong with you….. $8,000 bond…. are you friggin kidding. What would have happened if this scum bag went after the homeowners with that machete? How do you Judges sleep at night knowing you are all responsible for low bails that allow these ass wipes back on the streets to maybe one day kill someone. This is the most pathetic display of our judicial system I have ever seen. This is why Hernando Cty has so many criminals here because they know they can commit crimes here and get out of jail passes every time.

    Thursday, 12 November 2015, 5:08 pm
  • Yea, this scum bag won’t have to worry about pain killers if he was in my house and what was with the purple face?

    Thursday, 12 November 2015, 5:00 pm
  • He’s land fill material and the sooner the better.

    Thursday, 12 November 2015, 3:54 pm
  • Sorry but If I walked out into my garage just after midnight and find a guy holding a machete in his hand he’ll never get the chance to admit anything to any BODY.

    Thursday, 12 November 2015, 12:57 pm
    • Exactly! Especially someone with a purple face dressed in all black. KAPOW!! He’d need a body bag!

      Thursday, 12 November 2015, 1:30 pm
      • AMEN!

        Thursday, 12 November 2015, 4:13 pm
  • Machete in hand? He’s lucky he didn’t get shot.

    Thursday, 12 November 2015, 11:58 am
  • Im sure he is not getting any pain killers in jail lol

    Thursday, 12 November 2015, 11:49 am
  • How did he know pain meds were in this home? Is this junkie a friend of the victims? This is why it’s a good idea for those who need pain meds to keep it quiet. If too many people know about it, it only takes one person to get the word out and things like this happen. Thank you HCSO for getting this junkie off the streets for a short time. He’ll be back out and he’ll still be a drug addict. Remember we have deputies who are corrections officers who are doing pills. Not that long ago one arrested. Good money to be made when these pills are sold in jail.

  • Another worthless piece of s**t from hernando county, why such a low bond?

    Thursday, 12 November 2015, 11:39 am
    • The county does not need the money, because the red light cameras will now be sticking around another year. $8000 bond it should be 80 thousand . This county sucks.
