HUDSON: Three Fatalities in less than Two Hours (Identities Released)

PASCO (HUDSON) – Last night, less than two hours apart, three people lost their lives in separate traffic related accidents in Hudson, and a third destroyed a patrol car.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 44-year-old Hudson Man was killed, after he walked into the path of a full size van, at the intersection of Little Road and Denton Ave.

The unidentified victim sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The driver had a green light, say officials, when he entered the intersection and struck the victim. Charges are pending and alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor.

While troopers were investigating the pedestrian accident on Little Road, reports of a second fatal accident prompted the response of emergency personnel to the intersection to New York Ave and U.S. 19.

Officials say a male and female were killed, when the 2011 Yamaha Motorcycle they were riding was struck from behind by a pickup truck.

according to reports, the motorcycle stopped for a red light at the intersection in the center northbound lane, when 30-year-old Joshua Stalker of Lamont, Florida, failed to stop and rear-ended the motorcycle.

Post-impact, the motorcycle wedged under the front of the truck and caught fire. Both victims sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Their identities have not been released, pending notification of next-of-kin.

The driver of the pickup truck was not arrested but charges are pending and alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor.

While deputies were directing traffic on U.S. 19, witnesses say a distracted driver drove through the accident scene and struck a patrol car. An official report has not been released, but sources say there were no injuries associated with that accident.

UPDATE: The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the two victims in last night’s fatal motorcycle crash as 50-year-old Lori Ann Gestring, of Spring Hill and 50-year-old Jaime Hernandez, of Belleview.

  • Also my heart felt condolences to these families and their friends. We lost 2 beautiful people that we can never replace. This accident has been talked about very heavily today on a lot of the Major motorcycle sites today. All coming to the same conclusion that being that we must all pay attention whether we are driving a 2 wheel or a 4 wheeled death machine.

  • We must all be Defensive Drivers: Leave yourself an out, Get the big picture, Scan your mirrors every 5-8 seconds, cover your breaks when you approach and go through an intersection, look for stale red lights ahead of you or stale green lights, follow at safe distances for the Road CONDITION, watch for other drivers entering the roadway from the sides to make sure they are making eye contact. Whether you are on 2 wheels, 3 wheels, or 4 wheels we can never eliminate accidents but can reduce them when you driving defensively.

  • Texting is a good point as well, but I interpreted the article to say the drivers were drinking. Usually they say alcohol was not a factor if the driver was not drinking.

  • JOHN PEPIE your reply has nothing to do with the senseless guy that walks out into traffic on little road, thats just plain suicide! The other two accidents are plain stupidity for not paying attention rear ending a motorcycle at a light and other motorist hitting a stationary patrol car while at mva, stop texting get off the phone and drive people! You’ll never have enough law enforcement!

    Sunday, 15 March 2015, 10:15 pm
  • Part of the problem is the traffic enforcement personal in Pasco are having to fill in positions in patrol to cover those positions left open by deputies who are leaving for higher paying jobs. This is a direct result of the poor decisions made by the county to not pay our deputies a comparable wage to other law enforcement just over the county line. Pay them a comparable wage as adjoining counties and this senseless acts of DUI’s could be enforced. My heart breaks for these families…..
