Week 6 of the High School football season is upon us, and now is crunch time. The pretenders have fallen from the pack, the top dogs have emerged, and in the middle are a bunch of teams jockeying for position. Welcome to Pigskin Prophets where Derek J. LaRiviere and myself break down all the high school football action for Hernando, Citrus and Pasco counties. New this week, gone are the messy columns that you, the reader, didn’t like and replacing it is a table so you can easily follow who we selected! Be sure to follow the prophets on twitter, and take us on in the comments with your selections!

Game of the Week: Lecanto (3-1) at Central (2-3) 7:30pm

Aiello Jr: Lecanto, 35-21

LaRiviere: Lecanto, 28-24

Derek’s Breakdown: When this one ends, one of these teams is going to have a realistic shot at the postseason and the other will be in trouble. One week after blowing a huge lead at Weeki Wachee as the team dealt with the emotional turmoil of the Sebastian Rivera tragedy, the Bears need to regroup to play inspired football if they are going to overcome the fundamentally sound Panthers. De’Vonta Smith continues to rack up the yards on the ground, but Central will need to play hard for four quarters if they are going to even up their record.

Danny’s Breakdown: Despite the trying circumstances surrounding the Central football team, they missed a golden opportunity last week to secure a victory. Instead of being 3-2, they find themselves looking to even their record against a very tough Lecanto team. Lecanto, at 3-1, is looking to further boost their record and give themselves an inside track to a postseason spot. For the Panthers, that starts with stopping RB De’Vonta Smith, who is over 1000 yards on the season and has 11 touchdowns for the Bears.

 Byes: Nature Coast (5-0)

OVERALL RECORDS (LAST WEEK): Aiello Jr: 44-25 (11-1), LaRiviere 48-21 (9-3)
