Leopards Blank Hornets on Senior Night, 24-0
By: Brandon Webster
In a game where Hernando was celebrating senior night, it was fitting that quarterback Scott Bierwiler had the standout moments in his final home game, a 24-0 win over Weeki Wachee Friday.
Bierwiler, who wore his home jersey for the last time, knew the importance of this game for him and his fellow seniors.
“It’s good to go out on a good note.” Bierwiler said. “Our fans have been good to us all year and it means everything to get a win the last time on the field.”
Hernando (3-3, 2-2 5A-7) started the scoring in the second quarter as running back David Hale Bronson scored on a 6-yard run.
After Bierwiler completed a pass to Sam Batten to the 1-yard line, he wisely clocked the ball with just over a second left in the first half.
Instead of risking going for the touchdown, head coach Bill Vonada send out Luke D’Ambrosio for an 18-yard field goal giving the Leopards a 10-0 halftime lead.
Bierwiler would score on touchdown runs (5,27) in the third and fourth quarter, giving the excellent Hernando defense all the points they would need, as Weeki Wachee (0-7, 0-4 5A-7) only could muster 48 yards of total offense.
Bierwiler finished 7-of-8 through the air for 108 yards and added 10 carries for 59 yards and two scores.
While Hernando cruised to victory, it didn’t come without some hiccups, as the Leopards committed 10 penalties in the game.
Weeki Wachee would struggle on both sides of the ball as they finally got a first down late in the third quarter.
Hernando will be away at Central on Friday the game time is 7:30pm, weather permitting.
Weeki Wachee will host Lecanto on Friday at 7:30pm, weather permitting.
