Man Armed with Shotgun Climbs Roof, Threatens to Shoot Sheriff’s Deputies
BROOKSVILLE – A verbal dispute is what officials say led to a man climbing the roof of his home on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and threatening to shoot deputies.
Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis says the suspect, later identified as 63-year-old Laurence Taliaferro, was involved in a verbal dispute with a woman before making threats to hurt “individuals” and possibly himself. Taliaferro then proceeded to climb the roof of his residence, located at 59 W. MLK Blvd, armed with a shotgun, and made threats to shoot anyone who tried to stop him. Deputies quickly gained control of the situation and took Taliaferro into custody within minutes of the incident beginning.
Taliaferro was booked into the Hernando County Detention Center, where his charges are unknown at this time.
