Man Charged with Burglary/Battery After Visit with Son Cut Short
BROOKSVILLE – Emotions got the best of Weeki Wachee man Wednesday, after an unscheduled visit to see his young son turned violent.
According to officials, 29-year-old Charles Russell Brown stopped to speak with his son at his ex-wife’s house on Mabery Road. The ex-wife, Kristina Mendoza, and her male companion, Scotty Collier, both agreed to a short visit outside the home with their son.
After a few minutes the child became upset, so Mendoza and Collier ask Brown to leave the property. Brown became irate at the request and refused to leave. When Collier and Mendoza brought the child inside and attempted shut the door, Charles pushed the door open and tackled Collier – forcing him to the ground. During the altercation, Brown kicked Collier in the chest and then fled the residence.
Deputies located Brown at the intersection of Cortez Blvd and Montezuma Street, where they placed him into custody. During an interview, Brown admitted to being upset after he was asked to leave and that a physical altercation did take place between he and Collier. When asked how he entered the house, Brown said Collier pushed him inside the residence.
Due to testimony and injuries Collier received as a result of the attack, Brown was taken into custody and charged with Burglary with Assault or Battery.
Brown in currently free on a $15,000 bond.
