Man Charged with Child Abuse After Chaining Teen Son to Punching Bag for Days
LAND O’ LAKES (PASCO) – A father is charged with aggravated child abuse after he chained his teenage son to a punching bag for several day.
According to Pasco County Officials, 42-year-old Carlos Alvarez was arrested near his home yesterday, after the victim was able to press an alarm at his home on Calvano Drive.
Deputies responded to a residence and discovered the 17-year-old victim chained to a 150-pound punching bag.
Officials say the teen had been chained to the bag, off and on, for at least three days, but that he was provided food and water.
Alvarez admitted to the crimes, but he explained that it was to prevent him from running away.
The victim showed signs of prior abuse, say officials, and that he had previously been punched and struck with a belt.
Alvarez is currently held on a $100,000 bond at the Land O’ Lakes Detention Center.
