Man Shot in Foot While Sleeping – Girlfriend and Child Unharmed
BROOKSVILLE – Just after 3:00 am this morning, Brooksville Police responded to 701 Wood Drive, after reports of a shooting. According to officials, police made contact with Leandre Wright inside the home, who said he woke to the sound of several gunshots and then felt a pain in his left foot. The home was also occupied by the victim’s girlfriend and his 5-year-old son but they were not harmed in the shooting.
Investigators have not released a possible motive and no suspects have been identified.
UPDATE: Chief George Turner provided the following new information:
The incident was NOT a drive –by shooting. An unknown assailant went to the bedroom window and fired 7 rounds from a .380 into the bedroom. One round struck the sleeping Wright subject in the foot. Wright’s girlfriend, Denesia Mobley was in the bed with the victim, but was not hit. Her 5 year old son was sleeping in another room, not injured.
There are no witnesses. K-9 track failed to track from the scene. The victim/Wright is not cooperative, stating only that he heard the shots, felt the pain and was hit. He does not wish to pursue the case and has signed a waiver reference the investigation.
Brooksville Police will still be searching for the assailant in this Aggravated Battery/Attempted Murder. Anyone with information is asked to call the Brooksville Police Detective Division.
