Man Struck and Killed, Walking on Snow Memorial Highway

BROOKSVILLE – Just after 9:00 p.m. Friday, 37-year-old David P. Willson was walking northbound on Snow Memorial Highway, near Lake Lyndsey Road, when he was struck from behind by a Ford F250, traveling in the same direction. The driver, 66-year-old Benton C. Yost of Floral City, fled the scene and did not contact authorities. Willson succumbed to injuries and died at the scene.

At 10:45 p.m. officials say they found the truck and the driver at the McDonald’s restaurant located at 845 South Broad Street. Two other occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the accident; 51-year-old Sandra L. Goerge of Zephyrhills, and 57-year-old Howard C. Knudsen of Brooksville.

Evidence was collected at that location and charges are pending, according to officials. Investigators are not ruling out alcohol as a factor in the cause of the accident.
