Man Sustains Severe Head Injury During Robbery Attempt – Suspect in Custody
SPRING HILL – A Spring Hill man underwent brain surgery this morning, after he was struck in the head with a blunt object during a robbery attempt.
According to officials, around 9:00 p.m. last night, 911 operators received a call from the victim, Vincent Sardo, who said he was hit in the head with a bat and that he was driving to the hospital. Deputies met Sardo at Spring Hill Regional Hospital and assisted him into the emergency room.
Officials say Sardo sustained extensive head injuries and has undergone surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.
Around 5:30 a.m. this morning, deputies made contact with the suspect, 36-year-old Julio Xavier Valentin, at his home on Cranbrook Court. During an interview, Valentin stated that Sardo had been stealing money from him so he struck him in the head with a beer bottle. While on the ground, officials say Valentin searched through Sardo’s pockets and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.
Valentin was taken into custody and charged with Armed Robbery and Aggravated Battery
