Nature Coast Reaches Perfection
By: Danny Aiello Jr
Nature Coast scored on its first eight drives of the game, in route to a 57-21 victory on the road against South Lake Friday.
The win was monumental for the Sharks who finished the regular season a perfect 10 wins and no defeats.
While the Sharks celebrated this milestone after the game, star running back DeShawn Smith also had some celebrating of his own to do.
Smith, who ran for 326 yards and six rushing touchdowns, broke the record for career yards and touchdowns.
With 2,768 rushing yards and 47 touchdowns this season alone, Smith boosted his career stats to 5,051 yards and 70 touchdowns.
The former record was held by Tevin Drake (4,991 yards, 69 touchdowns) who also wore the Carolina Blue and Black for Nature Coast.
The game itself was a laugher from the get-go. An early South Lake (3-6) turnover set the Sharks up inside the Eagle 30-yard line and Smith paid off with a 24-yard touchdown run to make to 7-0 visitors.
Nature Coast (10-0) would see Smith run for touchdowns of 81 and 56 yards on the next to possessions to give him the county record and Sharks a stranglehold on the game.
Brian Haygood threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Smith, and recovered the fumble on South Lake’s first possession.
Up next for the Sharks is a home playoff date with former district rival Zephyrhills. The game will be held Friday at Nature Coast.
