Near Catastrophe After Truck Carrying Bleach Bursts into Flames

ODESSA (PASCO) – A near catastrophic situation unfolded this afternoon on the Suncoast Parkway, after a semi-tractor trailer carrying Sodium Hypochlorite (Bleach) bursts into flames.

According to officials, just after 12:00 pm today a semi began to experience mechanical problems and caught fire. The driver was able to escape without injury and no other vehicles were involved. The northbound lanes and exit ramp will remain closed for several hours while the load of bleach is removed.

According to OSHA, Sodium Hypochlorite produces Sodium Oxide and Chlorine (extremely poisonous gases) if exposed to fire.
