Neighbors on Edge After Short Standoff with Alleged Armed Suicidal Man

SPRING HILL –Residents living on Regent Lane were a little on edge this afternoon, when several Sheriff’s Deputies surrounded a home between Lema Drive and Marysville Street and prepared for a possible standoff.

According to unconfirmed reports, a man who allegedly owned several firearms and body armor threatened, “not to be taken alive,” after making suicidal statements.

Deputies blocked off adjacent streets and notified school transportation of the situation, so that parents would be aware of possible changes to drop off locations.

About an hour into the “standoff,” a male subject exited the residence and surrendered to deputies without incident.

Officials did not comment on the situation until it’s conclusion and only stated, “There was never a standoff.”

  • This is photographic evidence of some of the worst officer safety you will ever see! CROSSFIRE in one picture plus wrong weapon, the other pat down photo has the deputies gun exposed during pat down, unhandcuffed subject. What is the sergeant doing to allow this? Terrible! This is what happens with poor leadership and training!

  • Is that deputy really bending over in front of the suspect exposing her weapon to his un-handcuffed arms? Training division, please do something about this. Handcuff, then search. The supervisor there just allowed it to happen? D.T 101.

  • Thanks to the deputies for a great job. Nami Hernando (an affiliate of the National Alliance of Mental Illinois) gives training to deputies on how to handle a situation like this, so there are more of these situations having better outcomes. The county commission should increase the budget so all deputies can receive this type of training. All Pasco deputies are required to have the training.
