New Details Emerge in Deputy Involved Shooting, Deputy and Suspect Identified
SPRING HILL – New details have emerged surrounding yesterday’s deputy involved shooting at Marble Ave and Antelope Street.
According to a statement provided by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, a witness called 911 to report that a man was inside the Family Dollar, located at 12500 Spring Hill Drive, walking around waving a gun.
The caller provided a description of a white male, mid 50’s, wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. The caller then advised that the suspect was walking on Marble Avenue, and then hung up the phone.
At 2:52, Deputy M. Foradas advised dispatchers he was possibly out with the subject in question at the intersection of Marble Avenue and Antelope Street.
At 2:54 p.m., Foradas advised “shots fired” and called for backup and Fire Rescue. Foradas alleges that the suspect pulled out an object and pointed it at him before he discharged his firearm.
As backup deputies arrived, they began assisting Foradas in attempting to handcuff the suspect, who was not cooperating with commands to show them his hands.
The suspect has been identified as 57-year-old Gary Jean Schryver. He is currently listed in stable condition.
As per standard protocol, Deputy Foradas has been placed on paid administrative leave. He is 46 years old and has been employed by the HCSO since 11-19-1996.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is handling the investigation as per standard protocol, say official.
The HCSO will also investigate the incident internally to ensure agency policy and law enforcement best practices were followed.
