New Details Emerge in Deputy Involved Shooting, Deputy and Suspect Identified

SPRING HILL – New details have emerged surrounding yesterday’s deputy involved shooting at Marble Ave and Antelope Street.

According to a statement provided by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, a witness called 911 to report that a man was inside the Family Dollar, located at 12500 Spring Hill Drive, walking around waving a gun.

The caller provided a description of a white male, mid 50’s, wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.  The caller then advised that the suspect was walking on Marble Avenue, and then hung up the phone.

At 2:52, Deputy M. Foradas advised dispatchers he was possibly out with the subject in question at the intersection of Marble Avenue and Antelope Street.

At 2:54 p.m., Foradas advised “shots fired” and called for backup and Fire Rescue. Foradas alleges that the suspect pulled out an object and pointed it at him before he discharged his firearm.

As backup deputies arrived, they began assisting Foradas in attempting to handcuff the suspect, who was not cooperating with commands to show them his hands.

The suspect has been identified as 57-year-old Gary Jean Schryver. He is currently listed in stable condition.

As per standard protocol, Deputy Foradas has been placed on paid administrative leave.  He is 46 years old and has been employed by the HCSO since 11-19-1996.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is handling the investigation as per standard protocol, say official.

The HCSO will also investigate the incident internally to ensure agency policy and law enforcement best practices were followed.

  • Why did the Deputy state the suspect pulled out an “object “ and pointed at him before he discharged his weapon.
Did they find the suspect’s gun when they cuffed him?

    Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 10:40 pm
  • Interesting. What happened to the lame Sheriff saying this was suicide by cop? That liar!! Sounds to me like an overzealous deputy. Who wants to bet that the FDLE will clear this deputy like they always do? After reading other news reports on this, the original call did not come from the store. Tom can you request a copy of that 911 call and publish it so someone may be able to identify the caller who got this man shot?

    Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 8:54 pm
    • The deputy has a long service record, I doubt he was overzealous. Think before you post such stupid stuff!

      Thursday, 1 March 2018, 11:40 am
    • The call came from Gary himself. What hasn’t been reported is that he called mental health just a short time before the incident, begging for help, in which a deputy came to the house to do a welfare check at the request of mental health, officer did nothing. Depression is real, losing a child as he did is real, finding life so unbearable is real, and begging for help and no one listening is ashame.

      • Also, we hold no ill will towards the deputy. He was rightfully doing his job. My uncle wanted to perish that day, he wished to die at the hands of another, he purposely didn’t listen to the commands and requests of the officer. Though he didn’t have a gun, he did have a stick wrapped with black tape, looked real enough to make the officer feel threatened.

        Sunday, 4 March 2018, 4:01 pm
      • These deputies love to shoot, kill, arrest, belittle the mentally ill and he was givin high 5’s after his kill.

        Tuesday, 6 March 2018, 9:14 am
  • Micky Mantle, truth be told I’m not a huge fan of sheriff’s office myself BUT to assassinate a persons character as you just did is AWFUL. I bet you aren’t a perfect specimen yourself or the bravest either. He’s a human being for God sakes who is doing a job that I also bet you are not doing.

    Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 7:19 pm
    • ELS, deputy George assinated his own reputation. Look at his disiplinary action.

      Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 11:46 pm
  • You just never know the nut case next to you anymore around here or anywhere for that matter but this place went down the tubes

    Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 6:49 pm
  • This is kind of funky where it says it when backup deputies arrived they attempted to handcuff him the way the story reads it sounds like that’s after the shots were fired if dude got hit he probably really didn’t need handcuffs right? Anyway probably just a typo it just stood out to me I would think if one gets pop with some hot lead hopefully they would be not needing handcuffs maybe so though who knows I suppose if he was jacked up on some kind of wacky juice or meth or some s*** oh well another day in our crazy little town passes Us by like Dew on the grass…………

    Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 6:25 pm
      • I’d be interested in knowing if they cuffed him in the front or in the back. He was shot in the belly and I’m sure either way was not pleasant. The man has not been charged with any crime and only an anonymous phone call got the situation where it ended up. Maybe someone had it out for this man and made a call to do him harm since they knew his location after he supposedly left the store with no gun waving. The Dollar Store already admitted that the call to 911 did not come from the store and that everything was fine there. Something fishy is going on here and I’ll bet 10 to 1 that the FDLE clears the overzealous deputy like they always do.

        Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 10:23 pm
    • Maybe he got shot in the leg and he was still able to struggle douchebag

      Thursday, 1 March 2018, 12:31 pm
  • I didn’t expect to read Deput George would be called out and on the scene since a gun was involved. He is a coward and one of the primary reasons I consider the Sheriff a piece of good for nothing fat-boy..

    Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 5:19 pm
    • … and by your illiterate and illegible comment that makes absolutely ZERO sense, you are an ignorant POS; therefore, your comment is not worth the jam between anyone’s toes. Good day, sir.

      Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 6:47 pm
    • How do you know he wasn’t there? There were over 20 deputies and detectives there. they had a 3 block area roped off. And why do you need 3 or 4 deputies to handcuff someone who was shot in the stomach? It is obvious that HCSO does not properly train their deputies. Remember Doc was shot 1 1/2 years ago by someone who considered themselves a baddass.

      Wednesday, 28 February 2018, 11:42 pm
      • have you ever tried to put cuffs on a person who is on crack meth or bath salts they have so much strength dad of a gorilla that takes four to five guys a hold him down protocol is to be handcuffed in the back if you never wore a badge you don’t know what the heck you’re talking about
