New Developments in Separate Bar Rape Cases, One Defendant Cleared, Another Charged
SPRING HILL – There are new developments in two separate rape investigations that took place at local bars earlier this year.
The first incident occured just three days before Valentine’s Day at Jerseys Hometown Tavern on Commercial Way, where a woman claims she was brutally raped outside the back door of the bar by an unknown assailant. RNRF met with the victim, and in an exclusive interview “Rachel” detailed what she says occurred that night. (CLICK HERE FOR ORIGINAL STORY)
According to Rachel, a man raped her repeatedly while bystanders walked over them without saying a word. Rachel admits that she was intoxicated that night but that she did not consent to having sex with the suspect. Rachel was transported to a local hospital where DNA samples were taken and investigators began searching for the suspect.
On Monday, September 25th, Investigators with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28-year-old William Joseph Howard and charged him with Kidnapping and Rape. Howard posted a $15,000 bond that same evening. Howard has retained the services of former Judge, Peyton Hyslop and Matthew Pila.
We asked Rachel if she was relieved that a suspect was arrested and she said, “Yes, but that it will be good after he is locked up and stays locked up.”
People who know Howard are in disbelief over his arrest and say there is no way he is guilty of rape.
The second incident began on the night of Monday, March 7th, at Delirium Sports Bar and Grill on Mariner Blvd, where a string violent crimes led to the arrest of two men the following day. (CLICK HERE FOR ORIGINAL STORY)
Officials say 24-year-old Richard Bunyan Mosby and a second suspect, 25-year-old Kurtis Ray Edie raped a female victim in the bar restroom, repeatedly over the course of the evening. Surveillance video shows Mosby and Edie going back and forth from the bar to the restroom several times before leaving around 11:00 p.m. with the victim. Mosby and Edie parted ways but witnesses say Mosby and the alleged victim were seen having sex again in front of Best Cleaners & Laundry, located nearby on Lamson Ave. Deputies responded to the area after the woman attempted to gain entry to the business.
Later that morning, Deputies were called back to the same area after receiving reports of a robbery. Turns out, Mosby allegedly knocked a woman to the ground, strangled her until she was unconscious, and then stole the victim’s cell phone and other property.
Mosby was taken into custody after K-9 tracked him to a residence on Goldcoast Ave. Edie was also arrested after meeting with detectives.
Mosby is charged with Rape, Robbery, and Burglary, and remains behind bars on a $125,000 bond. Edie was also charged with Rape and released on a $50,000 bond; however, charges against Edie have since been dropped.
Immediately after RNRF released Delirium’s surveillance video and testimony from Edie and acquaintances, doubts of Edie’s guilt became apparent. Three months after his arrest, a Judge dismissed the rape charge again Edie.
Edie, who has the mentality of a 16-year-old, says he just wants to put his life back together and let everyone know that he is innocent. Edie lost his job with Publix Supermarket due to the arrest and according to Edie, they refuse to hire him back.
Edie says he’s working towards having his arrest record expunged.
Mosby is due back in court on October 19th with his attorney John Kruse.
